Director of Technology
Job Summary:
In this role, you will be responsible for leading our technology function across Shopify Plus, Recharge, and our broader eCommerce infrastructure. You’ll drive innovation and optimization across site performance, personalization, and subscription experience—ensuring our tech stack scales with our customers and our growth. You’ll manage both internal engineers and external partners to deliver a seamless, secure, and high-performing digital ecosystem. This is a senior-level role for a strategic builder excited to operate at the intersection of technology, growth, and customer experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
Technical Architecture & Infrastructure
- Own and evolve our Shopify Plus and Recharge architecture, with an eye toward future scalability and flexibility
- Lead headless Shopify builds using Hydrogen, React, and Next.js
- Guide platform decisions and ensure stability, speed, and compliance across systems (PCI, GDPR, etc.)
- Optimize our pixel/event tracking infrastructure to support attribution, funnel visibility, and growth experimentation
Team & Project Leadership
- Manage internal engineers and third-party developers, ensuring velocity, quality, and operational excellence
- Prioritize technical roadmap in partnership with Product, UX, Ops, and Support teams
- Drive high-impact initiatives such as site speed improvements, retention features, and API-led integrations
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Growth Enablement
- Build technical solutions that improve conversion, LTV, and customer satisfaction
- Ensure end-to-end performance tracking from ad to checkout to retention
- Partner closely with Growth, Analytics, and Marketing to implement fast, data-informed optimizations
Education and Experience
- 7–10+ years of experience in engineering or technical leadership, ideally in high-growth DTC or eCommerce
- 3–5+ years managing technical teams or agency partners
- Hands-on expertise with Shopify Plus, Recharge, and headless commerce frameworks
- Proven track record supporting performance-marketing-driven environments
- Expert-level knowledge of Liquid, custom themes, API integrations, and subscription infrastructure
- Strong familiarity with tools like Klaviyo, Zendesk, Loop Returns, Postscript, and GA4
- Deep understanding of tagging frameworks, pixels, and event architecture
- Clear communicator and cross-functional collaborator with a builder’s mindset
- Passion for clean code, site speed, happy customers, and high-performing teams
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, feedback-driven environment
