Back End Developer

Job Summary

We’re looking for a Backend Developer with strong AI expertise to build intelligent tools for the Shopify ecosystem. In this role, you’ll design and train custom machine learning models, integrate them into scalable backend systems, and power features like personalization, automation, and predictive insights. You’ll work across backend development (Node.js, Vue.js, Shopify APIs) and AI modeling (PyTorch, fine-tuning techniques like LoRA), collaborating with product and engineering teams to ship impactful, real-world solutions.

Duties and Responsibilities

AI & Machine Learning

• Design, build, and deploy custom AI/ML models to support personalization, automation, and predictive features
   
• Collaborate with the team to integrate machine learning outputs into backend systems and Shopify apps
   
• Stay current with AI tools, APIs, and frameworks (e.g., OpenAI, PyTorch) and apply them effectively in production
   

Backend Development

• Collaborate with the senior developer to build and maintain Shopify apps and backend infrastructure
   
• Write clean, modular Node.js code to power backend functionality and data integrations
   
• Optimize server-side performance, API data flow, and overall backend architecture
   
• Integrate with third-party platforms including OpenAI, Klaviyo, Recharge, and others
   

UI & Frontend Support

• Develop dynamic UI components using the Vue.js framework as needed to support product functionality
   

Engineering Collaboration

• Participate in technical planning, code reviews, and solution architecture discussions
   
• Troubleshoot and debug issues across the full stack
   
• Stay up-to-date on Shopify platform changes, app development best practices, and evolving tools in both backend and AI domains
   

Education and Experience

• 3+ years of experience in backend development and applied machine learning
   
• Proven experience training and deploying AI/ML models in production environments
   
• Proficiency in PyTorch or similar frameworks for model development
   
• Experience working with Shopify APIs, app infrastructure, and third-party integrations
   
• Solid understanding of JavaScript, Node.js, and modern backend development practices
   
• Familiarity with AI infrastructure and tools such as OpenAI, LangChain, or Pinecone
   
• Experience with Vue.js for developing user-facing components
   
• Demonstrated ability to work across the full stack—from model training to backend service integration
   
• Comfortable collaborating in fast-paced, iterative environments with cross-functional teams
   

Required Skills and Abilities

• Strong hands-on experience in AI/ML development, including model design, training, fine-tuning, and deployment
   
• Proficiency in JavaScript and Node.js for backend development in a production environment
   
• Experience developing frontend components using Vue.js
   
• Solid understanding of Shopify APIs, custom app architecture, and integration workflows
   
• Familiarity with both REST and GraphQL API structures
   
• Exposure to modern AI/LLM tools such as OpenAI, LangChain, and Pinecone
   
• Comfortable working with databases like PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Firestore
   
• Ability to write clean, testable, and scalable code with a strong emphasis on maintainability
   
• Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills across backend and model integration issues
   
• Effective collaborator in fast-paced, cross-functional environments
